Amanda Marchand (Montreal, Canada, 1968 - )
Beyond Tradition: Permanent Collection Photographs, September 27, 2003 - August 22, 2004, Historic Wing, Paul L. Davies Gallery, Second Floor, San José Museum of Art.
Contemporary Art from the Permanent Collection, July 30, 2007 - September 9, 2007, San José Museum of Art.
Marchand’s landscapes subtly reveal the impact that humans have on natural environments both developed and pristine. Here she pairs two images: a Northern California landscape (left), and a photograph taken near her home in Quebec (right). Says Marchand, “Traveling between these two places, an airplane ride (or a camera) can bring them together within the same space/time continuum. I love the element of surprise created when images are paired, as in a poem that sparks because of how words rub up together.”
